Description
An electron micrograph showing intricate, 'ice cream cone' shaped structures of an unnamed amorphous arsenic sulfide mineral, predominantly orange and yellow, formed as volcanic sublimates. Small colorless hexagonal crystals of another unnamed ammonium arsenic iodide mineral are also visible.
Geological Context
These minerals form as fumarolic incrustations through sublimation from volcanic gases and droplets of water at Mutnovsky volcano, Kamchatka. Their intricate forms are a result of growth from gradually increasing water droplets.
