Description

A large boulder of conglomerate featuring numerous rounded to sub-rounded cobble-sized clasts, predominantly white, embedded in a darker, reddish-brown to gray matrix. A rock hammer provides scale.

Geological Context

Conglomerates are clastic sedimentary rocks formed from the lithification of rounded gravel-sized clasts, indicating deposition in high-energy environments such as river channels, beaches, or alluvial fans. The Shawangunk Formation is known for its quartz-rich conglomerates, often associated with ancient marine or fluvial environments.
